Poemetry: Surrounded by Flowers

Surrounded by flowers yet none smell sweet;

surrounded by flowers yet none enchant.

Roses blued and Camellias blackened cant

towards the ground in rout to touch their rooted feet,

wilting low into a petaled sheet.

Surrounded by birds yet not one sounds sweet;

Surrounded by birds yet not one can fly.

 Bluebirds reddened and Ravens whitened shy

from the skies and clouds and cheerful tweet

to mourn their fall and into forests fleet.

Surrounded by you and each day is sweet;

Surrounded by you and the world is bested.

Flowers are charmless and birds’ wings arrested,

their beauty beat back in routed retreat:

the world’s splendors with you cannot compete.
