Poemetry: False Hope, False god

Suffer, suffering all for him,

A false god in heaven’s raiment,

Almighty cripple, missing limbs,

Healing those of ample payment.

Resheph alone lays claim to plague:

Not Love, not Light,

Not Benevolence, but Blight

Gives promises empty and vague.

God causes no learning by sting,

Never causes health to elope,

And if to a false hope you cling,

Remember that a false god is nothing.
