I remember my father’s voice
As he implored my hand and help.
I cannot forget his forlorn
Tone as we beheld the devil’s choice.
She shrieked an apoplectic yelp
Ere eyes that beheld her well that morn.
I remember her head in my hands:
Soft and warm and stiff she shook.
I cannot forget her distant
Gaze that rested on holy lands.
Away she ran without a look
But never leaving for an instant.
I remember; I cannot forget.
